Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What's the point of this FAQ?
A: It hammers in important rules, explains complex aspects of the site, and fills you in on basic ettiquette in a humorous/random way. Or at least it should, if I do my job right.
Q: All of the lands have been claimed, but I want to make a stallion character. What should I do?
A: You're going to make him and stick him in a herd as a subordinate, that's what you'll do. ;D I expect to see an almost equal number of mares and stallions.
Q: I'm bored because no one in my herd has responded. Any suggestions?
A: Go start some mischief in a different herd! Interaction is goooooood because it keeps Celeste happy.
Q: How do I make a good character?
A: First, educate yourself about the various sins and virtues. Then, pick a few sins and virtues and blend them together. Try to create aspects of a character's personality that are deep and unique, not stereotypical.
Q: There's a horse I want to claim, but she doesn't have my character's Sin or Virtue listed on her post. Is there a way I can still claim her?
A: If you really want her, you can wait until she's claimed and then steal her. Or you can always just visit her once she's claimed--I'm sure her Lead would love that.
Q: I've got an idea for a plot between a few characters...how do I get it started?
A: First, make sure that all characters involved are up to it. Send a few private messages to cook up a plan and then execute it.
Q: Celeste just plagued me! What did I do to deserve this?
A: Probably nothing too major, we just wanted to throw you some conflict. Roleplays thrive on conflict. Go make Celeste happy by getting help from other lands.
Q: Are only greedy horses allowed in Avaritia? Are sins only allowed to talk to sins and virtues only allowed to interact with other virtues?
A: NO. The only restriction for sins and virtues is that the Lead of each land must be that sin or virtue. You can have chaste horses running around in Ira and proud horses living on Patientia--in fact, we encourage it.
Q: Those rules are long. Do I have to read them?
A: Yes. Yes you do.
Q: There are lots of horses all on one thread. How do I know when it's my turn to post?
A: Keep to the original posting order, more or less. Of course, if it's been a day or two and you have something to say but it's not your 'turn', go ahead and post. Give others a chance to post before you just go back and forth between two characters.
Q: I feel like I'd be intruding if I went outside my herd...
A: Nonsense! I'm sure people would love to roleplay with many different characters. By all means, intrude.
Q: But what if I end up spending more time in a herd that's not my own?
A: I suppose that's fine too. Might make for some interesting reactions on your lead's part.
Q: How will I know if a horse would be good to claim as my own?
A: Read through the person's post and see if they have traits that would provide variety/conflict within your herd. If they have your land listed as one that can claim her, go right on ahead!
Q: Is my character's personality allowed to change?
A: Oh, yes please. Their personality should shift a bit or a lot based on relationships and events, and will probably end up reflecting a little more of the sin or virtue she was claimed by.
Q: I think my character would be a good leader of a sin or virtue, but she's not a good fighter and I don't want to lose the land because of that. Is there anything I can do?
A: Convince some stallions to be herdmembers! Promote a strong horse to beta and then have him (or her) stand in for you in a fight.
Q: Where should I post my questions and suggestions for this site?
A: On this board (but not this thread).
Q: People hate me because their characters are mean to mine. I don't understand it!
A: Not exactly a question, but sure, I'll bite. It needs to be adressed all the same. Please understand that the opinions and attitudes of characters aren't always the same as the roleplayers'. It may be in a character's nature to be cruel and demeaning, but the roleplayer is probably very, very nice. Don't hold IC events against people OOC; they're two separate worlds.
Q: You've been interviewing yourself this whole time, haven't you?
A: ...Perhaps. >>
